What we publish

Chic Editor Club covers the parts of getting dressed that survive the season. Capsule wardrobes that add up on paper and in a real closet. The arithmetic of cost per wear. Outfit formulas you can apply on a Tuesday morning without thinking. Fabric and fit, and why a garment fails at the seam rather than the design.

We do not publish hauls, “trends you must try”, or anything whose value expires in six weeks. If a piece is not worth buying, we say so — and we say it in the article, not in a footnote.

The editorial line

Fewer, better, worn more. Every guide we write is judged against that sentence. A recommendation that adds a fourteenth white shirt to a wardrobe that already has thirteen has failed the test, however good the shirt is.

How we make money

We earn commissions from some of the links on this site. When you buy through one, the retailer pays us a percentage and you pay nothing extra. That is the entire business model, and it is the reason we can afford to write 4,000-word guides instead of 200-word posts.

It also creates an obvious conflict, so we handle it in three ways. First, every article carries a disclosure. Second, our How We Test page sets out what we will and will not recommend. Third, and most importantly, we tell you when the answer is to buy nothing — that happens more often than you would expect from a site that earns commission.

Who we are

Four editors with four different reasons to distrust a label: a former womenswear buyer, a personal stylist, a textile sourcing specialist and an alterations tailor. Full backgrounds on the masthead page.

Independence

We do not accept payment for coverage, we do not let brands approve copy, and we do not run sponsored articles. Any advertising on the site is clearly marked and sold by placement, never by editorial mention.
